Mobile phone network operator O2's website was brought down after receiving a deluge of pre-orders for the latest version of Apple's iPhone, which goes on sale today. O2's site peaked at 13,000 transactions a minute shortly after opening the pre-order service last Thursday, overloading the system. This was despite O2 investing heavily in increased bandwidth before the iPhone went on sale. Both the 16Gb and 8Gb versions of the iPhone, which are only available in the UK through O2, have sold out but O2 is working with Apple to increase supply.
